The Masculine Mandate in the Church

Our Oxford Club for Men group resumes this Saturday, December 10, at 7 AM, at the church office, with our ongoing study of Richard Phillips’ book The Masculine Mandate. Newcomers are always welcome!

After breakfast (bring your own please) we will discuss chapter 12, The Masculine Mandate in the Church.

So it is the Word of God–by grace of God taught, heard, understood, and applied–that accomplishes all progress within a church. From this, one conclusion is abundantly clear: any Christian man who wants to serve the Lord, in any role and at any level, must begin by devoting himself to God’s Word. A man who is weak in the Word of God will be of little use for service, for we cannot truly serve God effectively in our own knowledge and strength. But God’s Word stirs up in us the faith and spiritual strength needed to serve Him (p. 137).

Battle for the Bible (CRI National Conference)

The Christian Research Institute will hold its 2010 national conference, Battle for the Bible, from May 6-8 in Tampa, Florida.

Here is a brief description of the event’s components from the conference director:

Our event starts on Thursday evening May 6th for a special National Day of Prayer service with Dr. James White, Hank Hanegraaff, Lee Strobel, Steve Camp, Joe Hancock and Steve Kreloff.  It will be an evening blessed with incredible worship and corporate prayer. Friday May 7th begins with James White, Hank Hanegraaff, Lee Strobel, and Steve Kreloff and ends with the “Is the Bible True” debate.  Saturday May 8th is a strong day of conference and worship with Joe Hancock, James White, Lee Strobel, Hank Hanegraff, and Dr. Tom Ascol.  The program will conclude at 8PM.

Another Way to Stimulate Our Prayer Lives

Someone shared a website with me where you can submit your email to receive daily prayers that utilize the Bible in the first person. The purpose of the site, edited by Ligon Duncan and others, is to encourage, promote and assist biblical prayer.

For example, I received this copy today:

Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you or in comparison with you.
