The Masculine Mandate in the Church

Our Oxford Club for Men group resumes this Saturday, December 10, at 7 AM, at the church office, with our ongoing study of Richard Phillips’ book The Masculine Mandate. Newcomers are always welcome!

After breakfast (bring your own please) we will discuss chapter 12, The Masculine Mandate in the Church.

Here is a sample from that chapter to whet the appetite:

So it is the Word of God–by grace of God taught, heard, understood, and applied–that accomplishes all progress within a church. From this, one conclusion is abundantly clear: any Christian man who wants to serve the Lord, in any role and at any level, must begin by devoting himself to God’s Word. A man who is weak in the Word of God will be of little use for service, for we cannot truly serve God effectively in our own knowledge and strength. But God’s Word stirs up in us the faith and spiritual strength needed to serve Him (p. 137).

  1. Dear Pastor Curt,

I am an Elder in a Presbyterian Church outside of Philadelphia. I am currently leading a group of 12 to 15 men through the Masculine Mandate book. I was wondering if you could forward the study guide that you’ve created for this book or send me a list of the links – if it would not require a big effort. It looks like you are almost through the book – I hope it is is paying dividends for the men and their families. Pastor Phillips has done a great job getting to the heart of our calling as men.

    Thanks and God Bless,

    Jim Hess

    • Pastor Curt: My name is David Schenk and I am the men’s soccer coach at Dordt College (Sioux Center, Iowa). Our coaches and players (almost 50 guys altogether) are working through The Masculine Mandate this season. Any chance you could email me your study guides? Thanks for any help you might provide.

  2. I’m about to lead a discipleship group through this material as well. I’d also love a copy of the study guide if you could send it my way? I’m reading the book now and it’s been a great challenge to my heart and the way I view manhood.

  3. Hi, I’m also about to lead a bible study group through this and would love to have your study guides for each chapter!

I actually found most of them on your website but still am lacking #10 and #1.

I would also appreciate any other resources you may have relating to this book and a study.

    Thanks so much!
    ~Benjamin

  4. Pastor Curt,
